When speaking on what a Vineyard Church should look like John Wimber (one of the founding leaders of the Vineyard movement) spoke about its 'DNA' - stating that at its heart a Vineyard Church should have the following 10 qualities flowing through all it does:

1. Worship - Intimate worship is experienced and carried into daily life

2. Faithful Bible teaching - The Bible is taught faithfully as the standard for living

3. The gifts of the Spirit in operation - Spiritual Gifts are released and exercised as tools for ministry

4. Lifegroups - Relationships are valued and encouraged through small groups  

5. Ministry to the poor - Care for the poor / needy / broken is prominent

6. Missions - There is participation in and support for missions and church planting at home and abroad

7. Healing - Signs & wonders are expected in prayer and ministry

8. Unity - There is a love for and participation with other churches in the body of Christ for the sake of the Kingdom of God

9.  Evangelism - Evangelism is central to the purpose and practice of church life

10. Equipping the saints - People are trained / equipped for ministry in the church and the world
